Post Liverpool: Shearer complements Owen

With the holy trinity (Ed - wholly inadequate trinity?) of Martins, Owen and Viduka each failing to notch v Pompey, Shearer`s shake up of the front three again didn`t come off as an utterly shocking Oba Martins and the patently unfit Viduka and Lovenkrands couldn`t come close to breaking the deadlock against Liverpool on Sunday. The manager however did reserve some praise for Owen, saying:

"I just thought that I would try something different. We hadn't been creating a lot of chances and I just thought I'd go with Mark Viduka up front with Oba Martins just to the right of him. But Michael was very professional as you'd expect. He was obviously disappointed to have been left out but his response was good.'

Expect Owen to be back in against the Beasts however.

must admit I was shocked to see him dropped, he's always capable of doing something special isn't he?

Hasn't been the 'Owen of Old' for about four seasons. At least as long as he's been with us.
