'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Post Liverpool: Shearer`s Thoughts

With the games now down to a nerve jangling trio against Boro, Fulham and Villa, Alan Shearer was less than enamoured about the weekend`s damage limitation display against the Mickeys. With a combo of Gerrard showing ring rust on his return from injury and the woodwork sparing us from a Derby-esque humping at Anfield, the boss said:

"It could have been more, perhaps it should have. You talk about positives? It was 3-0. It could have been four or five or six. We`ve just got to eradicate it - it`s gone. The best team won - I`ve got no complaints.

The best team won on the day, no complaints, but this game wasn`t going to seal our fate, the next two will. Nothing`s changed. Obviously, I was disappointed with the way we conceded the goals.
It could have been more, perhaps it should have. This game wasn`t going to seal our fate, the next two will. Nothing`s changed. Obviously, I was disappointed with the way we conceded the goals.

We took 3,000 people with us to support us. And there were thousands more in Newcastle who will feel the same way as me. They know it is not a losing battle. They are staying with us and they are sticking with us. We are grateful for that. We`re all hurting together.

We believe it`s the next two home games. I don`t know what is going to be enough to survive. If we win our next two it might be enough."
