'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Milburn Record Replaces Cups

He has been asked about his lack of winners medals, but Alan Shearer says beating Wor Jackie's record of 201 goals in a black-and-white shirt, will stay with him forever.

Shearer: 'It was one of the greatest feelings I've had in my life. I waited a long time for it and when it came along I didn't really take in. Ten minutes after it happened and the crowd were singing it started to sink in.

'It was an honour to go past the late, great Jackie Milburn because I know what he still means to this area because I was brought up here. My mam and dad used to always talk about him, and still do.

'I have mixed emotions about retirement. In a way I am looking forward to it and in another way I am not. Football is all I have ever done for 20 years, so if I get my way then I will have a break from it.

I will go on holiday with my family and live the life of a normal person. After that I can go back to football if I miss it.'
