'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Big Al: I`ll do everything I can

Speaking to BBC Sport in an interview within an hour of officially being confirmed as our new manager Alan Shearer gave an impassioned plea for unity as we seek to pull together to keep ourselves in the top flight. The Lion of Gosforth said:

'It's a club I love and I don't want them to go down. I'll do everything I can to stop that. It's a tough, tough situation that the club is in. I believe I can help the club. There is a nucleus of good players that can get the club out of trouble. There are very, very good players that are just lacking in confidence.

We are going to need every ounce of effort from the players and the supporters. The supporters are well renowned and I know they won't let us down. I'm looking no further than the eight-game spell. Joe Kinnear is in charge. He is recovering well and we wish him well but I am here for eight games only.'

I'm amazed. I thought that the only way Shearer would take over was if you were 7 points clear at the top of the table with 2 games to play. Good luck although you may still go down.

I think intially you will get some results, but taking a fresh face to management, no matter how much Shearer loves Newcastle is not the answer. Loads of teams have used explayers as savious, but you need a lot more in your bag than passion. The only good thing is that you have got rid of Wise who caused all the problems in the first place. Why did Newcastle not do that for KK. I personally hope that the dreaded door does not open for you, but Shearer is not the answer, you need a manager tried and tested, what Shearer has done is bring in Dowie and that may just save you.

Typical Shearer, takes over with 8 games to go so if you go down its not his fault but if you stay up he is considered a hero.Always took the easy route as a player and looks like is going same way as a manager. Why not get Jimmy Nail as your next gaffer "Because he's a Geordie and he loves the club he will do well".You lot really are thick as pig s**t.And you wonder why you never win nowt?

After doing a passable Shearer impersonation with his forearm smash on Arshavin, I presume Steven Taylor will be appointed captain?

I'd imagine Shearer would rather be playing Stoke this week instead of next week! We just love being party-poopers :-)

Can't see them getting anything out of chelsea, but AS was sure that he was not going beyond the 8 matches he has signed up to do.
