Hughton: Players showing 'intensity' in training

Chris Hughton has reassured fans that with players coming back from injury, and competition from places heating up, the Magpies are showing more grit, and resilience, and that there is an added level of intensity in training.

Speaking to the club's official web site, Hughton said: 'After the disappointment of the result at Hull it was an opportunity to freshen things up.

'But that's what we have at the moment - competition for places.

'It was good to see players come back into the team and show what they can do and that was encouraging.

'We hope that competition remains for the rest of the season because what you see is an increase in the intensity of training sessions.

'And that then translates onto the pitch which is where it matters.'

Geordies everywhere will hope that that in fact is the case, with tough fixtures, including a visit by Chelsea, and a journey to Liverpool on the cards in the coming months.

Grit, resilience and intensity in training. All well and good, but it's the performances on the pitch that count Mr Hughton, so training is a bit irrelevant, and as rallying cries go that's pretty poor.

I don't think Hughton's said anything interesting or insightful yet this season.

He'll be interesting when we are in League One... not a moment sooner!

Hughton is such a****. Why are we persisting with people who have never had a history with NUFC, do not care about NUFC and would happily jump ship without a care in the world if a better offer came along? That goes for most of the players too...
