'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Calderwood lines-up Shay Given replacement

Newcastle United are ready to trump Tottenham Hotspurs' hopes of landing highly-rated Huddersfield youngster Alex Smithies, reports The People.

Reports also confirm that United coach Colin Calderwood was sent by the club's bosses to watch the talented 19-year-old in midweek at The Terriers' draw against MK Dons.

Smithies has been chased by a host of Premiership clubs over the past year, and it is understood that the Magpies are now in pole position to sign him.

If the guy is any good at all money talks all languages 3,000,000 sounds a lot , i think the way things pan out now a days with players unable to make it in the premiership and clubs unwilling to agree to a trial a down payment of ex amount of pounds should be made and if no go all money should be returned , Spurs have lost zillions of pounds over players who have failed trying to make the big time . My team for Sundays match at Villa is fitness permitting (1) Cudicini (2) Chimbonda (3) Ekotto (4) Corluka (5) Woodgate (6) King (7) Lennon (8) Palacois (9) Modric (1) Keane (11) Pavlyuchenko . Subs Bale , Huddlestrone, Dawson , Gomes , O`Hara , Bent .
