Report On Souness Signings

Former Magpies boss Graeme Souness snapped up Scott Parker in a 6.5million swoop during the summer, and the former Charlton man has never let his side down.

But rumour that glandular fever end his season season is another blow to a club that has lurched from one crisis to another.

Souness made six summer signings at a total cost of 38.5million, and of the new arrivals, only 1.5million capture Nolberto Solano has not suffered an extended spell on the sidelines with Michael Owen, Emre, Albert Luque, Craig Moore and now possibly Parker missing for significant periods.

Luque's luck went from bad to worse on Tuesday night when he damaged an ankle 13 minutes into a reserve-team appearance designed to give him match sharpness, although he is not expected to be out for too long.
