Magpies miss out on Brazilian striker

Newcastle United transfer-target Fred has decided to move to a club in his homeland, thought to be Fluminense after a lengthy and bitter transfer tug-of-war between Lyon, and the player's representatives.

The Brazilian striker had been adamant about quitting present club Lyon since the summer, and the club have finally granted him the wish to buy-out his own contract and move to pastures new.

Olympique Lyonnais branded the player a 'fraudster' and even referred to him as being a 'trouble-maker' behaving in manner described as 'unreal'.

The French club released a statement late Thursday to confirm the player's departure.

"Olympique Lyonnais would like to announce that Fred has decided to terminate his contract when he was staying in Brazil on his layoff.

"The termination of the contract with Olympique Lyonnais takes effect tonight [Thursday] and will allow the player to join a Brazilian club."

Looks like Charles N'Zogbia has a twin.
