With the full force of the SJP media machine underway, we have seen season ticket price decreases for next year and a bluster of touchy feely exercises coming out of the towers at NE1. Derek Llambias seems to be on a one man PA campaign to repair the Ashley regime, following the latest wave of protests prior to the Everton game.
Speaking at the latest Q&A forum Llambias spoke avidly about the club finances, hinting again that loans had been provided by Ashley to get the Nolan deal through and also to settle the Gutierrez dispute. He said:
"Mike has had to put £10 million of his own money into the club this week to facilitate the running of the club - that includes £4.5m for Kevin Nolan, as fees for Shay Given and Charles N`Zogbia will not be received until the summer.
And he will continue to put his own money in. He is willing to put £10-15 million of his own money in every year, but the rest of the money, for transfers and so on, has to be generated by the club`s own business activity. We don`t have any commercial income at the moment because that was spent to pay for Michael Owen. It was all spent in advance, that`s the money from Northern Rock and Adidas. That is crazy for any football club because we need that income."
