Dane Watch: Peter wants international reprieve

Having found himself marginalised by the Danish national side whilst on the sidelines at Schalke, Peter Lovenkrands has laid out his aim to get recalled at a national level following his positive start to life at NUFC. The striker said:

'I've not played a lot in the last couple of years, and it was hard for me to get into the international team. The coach couldn't really pick me when I wasn't playing - it wouldn't have been fair. I've come off the bench for Newcastle and now started as well, so that shows I'm ready again for the national team as well. I'll have to wait and see whether I get picked or not.

When I left Schalke, if someone had told me I'd be playing for Newcastle United, I'd never have believed it, but that's the way it goes in football sometimes, you need a bit of luck. It's been hard work, and I've done all the things I could do. At the moment I'm just very pleased to be here. (West Brom) was difficult, but I feel really good now. Body-wise, my legs feel good.'
