QPR move in on Magpies target

According to The Daily Star Queens Park Rangers have launched an audacious bid to sign Manchester City midfielder Michael Johnson for a fee of £2 million.

Magpies gaffer Joe Kinnear is an admirer of the 20-year-old starlet, and the St. James' Park club are understood to have been waiting in the wings in case City decided to let the youngster leave.

It is also widely known that Kinnear hoped to get Johnson as part exchange for City-bound Shay Given, but that seems unlikely at the moment after talks broke down between the two clubs.

Newcastle United are understood to have already bid for Italian midfielder Marco Donadel, and are trying to lure Sporting Lisbon's flamboyant midfield maestro Miguel Veloso to St. James' Park, but the prospect of having a player of Johnson's reputation will be mouth-watering to the fans, and the club alike.
