United agree Donadel fee

Newcastle United have reached an agreement with Fiorentina to sign Italian central midfielder Marco Donadel for a fee of £4 million, according to Calciomercatonews.

Firenzeviola also reports that the Italian is expected on Tyneside in the next 48 hours to finalise the deal that could spell the end for out-of-favour Cameroonian midfielder Geremi.

Joey Barton has been the subject of a bid from Portsmouth, but is is unlikely that he will leave after pledging to stay and fight for Newcastle United as 'thank you' for sticking with him during times of grave difficulty.

25-year-old Donadel is expected to be one of several new signings to step in through the door this week, after Kinnear landed Frenchman Albin Ebondo from Toulouse, and is working hard on signing Rennes ace Stephane M'Bia.

Shay Given is expected to complete his move to Manchester City this week, but the Magpies are reluctant to let him leave before their match against the Citizens on Wednesday.

It still remains to be seen whether any one, or two players will swap clubs as part of the Given deal -- Micheal Johnson and Nedum Onouha have been heavily linked, although reports now indicate that a fee of £10 million is all the Magpies may get.

Just what we need in a relegation fight - an Italian midfielder. Is Tony Jiminez still pulling the strings from afar?

One good news after another, it appears.
