Should Newcastle United go for Scott Parker?

According to The Times Newcastle United have made a £5 million bid for an unnamed midfield player. Magpies gaffer Joe Kinnear has been hunting for a Premiership midfielder for quite some time now, and with failed moves for Stephane M'Bia, and Barry Ferguson, Vital Newcastle United is wondering whether the mystery player could be the club's former captain Scott Parker.

The former England International was a big hit at the Toon, and has been performing brilliantly for present side West Ham United since coming back from injury this season.

He would ideally be a replacement for aging warhorse Nicky Butt, and could potentially team-up with Joey Barton, who can then give up his defensive tendencies and focus on the attacking flair that made him such a hit at old club Manchester City.

West Ham may be tempted to sell Parker for the £5 million fee... the only question now is, should the Magpies make their move.

Crisis club Tottenham Hotspurs have already re-signed several of their ex-players, with a deal for fullback Pascal Chimbonda also now a possibility.

Should Newcastle United take Spurs' lead and take a shot at Scott Parker?

You decide...
