Albin Ebondo set to join Newcastle United

Newcastle United have agreed an undisclosed fee for French defender Albin Ebondo with Ligue 1 side Toulouse, reports The Times.

The 24-year-old fullback is set to join his teammates on Monday at the club's training facilities to have a medical and finalise his potential transfer to the North-East.

The news will serve as a stress-reliever for many Toon fans who have been frustrated with the club's lack of transfer activity this term.

The Black & Whites have already captured Danish International Peter Løvenkrands on a free transfer, with Kinnear also hopeful of capturing an unnamed midfielder in the days to come.

Kinnear told The Times that he is hopeful of confirming a £5 million deal for the mystery midfield man before the game against Manchester City on Wednesday.

Ebondo's fee is thought to be around £4 million, and if he does indeed manage to get his midfield target for as low as £5 million, then he may take another stab at one or two loan signings to ease the Magpies' growing injury crisis.

Meanwhile, Shay Given's potential transfer hinges on a meeting with Toon Managing Director Derek Llambias on Monday, with the Irishman demanding a transfer to Manchester City as soon as possible.

City have bid £10 million for the veteran stopper, and Newcastle United are understood to have finally realised that they must take the money and run.

A step in the right direction but not if the likes of Barton, Given and the French**** are sold down the river in the next week.
