United want 2m-rated Guinean defender

Magpies gaffer Joe Kinnear is understood to be considering a bid for French-born Guinean defender Bobo Balde. The 6ft3in stopper is out of contract in the summer, and his current club Celtic are thought to be keen on cashing-in while they still can.

The Herald reports that Newcastle United, as well as Sunderland are monitoring Balde's situation with a 2 million offer imminent.

The 33-year-old has made more than 160 appearances for The Bhoys, and is one of the longest serving members of the present squad.
