City offer £15 million for Magpies keeper Given

Magpies goalkeeper Shay Given is still one of Manchester City's top targets of this transfer window, says the The Daily Mail.

City boss Mark Hughes has tabled an improved £9 million offer for the talented Irishman, and has thrown in England U21 International Michael Johnson as part of the deal.

Newcastle United were holding out for £12 million for Given, but may now be tempted to settle the matter after Hughes agreed to allow highly-rated youngster Michael Johnson to be part of the deal. Johnson is rated around £6 million, and the overall deal is understood to be worth £15 million.

Toon boss Joe Kinnear has been busy in scouting his targets this transfer window, but has faced misery in concluding deals due to financial constraints. With Given's sale, Kinnear is sure to get an influx in spending power, and he may then focus his attention on his main transfer targets.

It is understood that the Magpies gaffer wants Cameroon International Stephane M'Bia, Frenchman Adil Rami, and Australian right-back Lucas Neill. The prices quoted for M'Bia, and Rami is said to be a combined £20 million, of which, Kinnear only has £10 million. Given's sale could make those deals a reality.

I'd be happy with £9m and Johnson definitely. Still crying out for a RB and DM.

RB, LB, DM - plus Johnson, and Lovenkrands. We're set for a top ten finish...
