Kinnear: M'Bia is the new Patrick Viera

Newcastle United are still waiting to hear from French outfit Rennes about taking highly-rated combative midfielder Stephane M'Bia off their hands for a fee believed to be around 6 million.

Speaking to The Journal Magpies boss Joe Kinnear was gushing with praise for the Cameroon International.

"I would hang my hat on him," Kinnear said.

"M'Bia has played (15) games for Cameroon, Rennes are up near the top (of Ligue 1), he is a great player, the nearest thing I`ve seen to Patrick Vieira. He would be a big plus for us."

It is understood that Rennes are currently considering United's bid for the 22-year-old, and that an answer could sent as early as Friday evening.
