Transfer Tattle: Neill chase ended

So in a short and sharp statement, the club have officially confirmed that West Ham have said no to a proposed deal for buying out Lucas Neill`s contract and, with it, our hopes for luring the Australian right back to SJP. The statement said:

'In looking to strengthen our squad, the Club has been exploring a number of possibilities during the transfer window. With regard to Lucas Neill, West Ham United have made it clear he is a player they value as a highly important member of their squad and who they have no desire to sell. Newcastle United respect West Ham's position and will therefore not be pursuing the matter.'

About the same time, West Ham also confirmed:

'We'd like to make it clear Neill is a contracted player and we've received no approach from any club, including Newcastle. We are astonished by reports that a Premier League manager has claimed contact with one of our players.'

Puzzling but definitely a firm slap in the chops for JFK, probably not the last before the end of the dreaded window either.
