'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Transfer Tattle: Lucas Neill et al

Despite the intense speculation over who our £4m bids are for, it seems as if Lucas Neill could be the man coming in to cover in the right back slot. The Evening Chronicle has the former Millwall and Blackburn man, now West Ham's skipper, as we seek to buy him out of what is left of his Hammers contract.

The paper also has us linked with a move for Batefemi Gomis, a long term target from St Etienne, as well as Stephane M'Bia.

With the widely reported £4m bids, media outlets were confirming Joe Kinnear's current statements as we seek to strengthen our threadbare squad on the basis of the shocker against Hull last night. Kinnear said:

"We`ve bid for two players and we have tried our hardest to get them both here at Newcastle United. One of them plays for Cameroon - he`s a decent player and is very powerful in the air."
