Spurs target Appiah in Toon sights

Newcastle United are rethinking whether to revive their interest in Ghana midfielder Stephen Appiah after it was revealed that the Spurs trialist was not keen on joining the White Hart Lane club.

Tottenham Hotspur offered the 28-year-old combative midfielder a contract which he reportedly rejected. Talks have stalled since then.

Joe Kinnear has confirmed that he is an admirer of the powerful central midfielder, and may now instigate a move for the Ghanian, says The Evening Chronicle.

The former Fenerbahce player has been out of contract for the past year, and his fitness was a major doubt which is why the Magpies did not move for him in the first place. However, now that Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has given the player his seal of approval, the Toon may consider an offer themselves.

Would like to see Everton make a move for Appiah as midfield cover. He'd certainly add some mettle to our lightweight'ish midfield.
