Pre Hull: Kinnear on Carroll

Having been ruled out of tomorrow`s match against Hull with injury, Andy Carroll did however receive a glowing endorsement from Joe Kinnear and, in a way, a backhanded compliment that he`ll be saved for the real business of the league. Kinnear said:

'Playing up front with Michael will do Andy the world of good. It's an excellent experience for any young player, and he's in a fantastic position to learn his trade from one of the best strikers in the world. To get his goal was brilliant, and what he's going through at the moment is all part of the growing up process.

To be honest, my initial instinct was that we'd get the best out of Andy from pairing him alongside Michael, but I think that Andy's also having a positive effect on Michael too. He's a big, tall forward, and while Michael has scored goals no matter who he's played with in the past, Andy's presence is a real plus.'
