Magpies target Nigel Quashie

Newcastle United boss Joe Kinnear is keen to snap up West ham midfielder Nigel Quashie on a £500,000 deal, reports The Daily Mirror. Quashie is the latest among a host of bargain-buys that cash-strapped Newcastle are currently looking at.

Magpies owner Mike Ashley is yet to open up his cheque-book for signings this term, and Joe Kinnear has been instructed to secure loan moves, and free-transfers when possible.

With the central midfield position a priority for Kinnear, Scotsman Quashie may be considered due to his vast experience and tough demeanour.

28-year-old Dane Peter Løvenkrands is already on Tyneside for a trial, as he looks to earn himself a contract with his performances in training.

Toon midfielder Geremi may be sacrificed for Quashie's arrival, with Kinnear looking to sell the Cameroon-International to raise finances for purchases. Besiktas has been liked with a move for the ex-Real Madrid and Chelsea man.
