City striker Jo on his way to Newcastle United

Magpies gaffer Joe Kinnear is said to be keen on bringing Manchester City's £18 million striker Jo on loan until the end of the season, says The Daily Mail. Newcastle are currently experiencing a spectacular shortage in numbers up front, with Kinnear having to play youngster Andy Carroll alongside Michael Owen due to injuries.

Currently, Obafemi Martins, Alan Smith, Shola Ameobi, and Mark Viduka are all on the treatment table, with Kinnear refusing to allow Spanish youngster Xisco even to make substitute appearances for the Toon.

Brazilian Jo has had a miserable time in England so far, but the Magpies are willing to let him try his luck in the North-East. Dennis Wise's recruitment team have already scouted the City forward, and a loan move looms in the horizon.

However, the deal hinges on Mark Hughes landing his top target Roque Santa Cruz from Blackburn Rovers. Jo has only scored one Barclays Premiership goal for the Eastlands club, and Newcastle's motivation in wanting to sign the wantaway City man is yet to be disclosed.

The Daily Mail is also reporting that the Magpies are considering an audacious swap deal involving Middlesbrough's Egyptian striker Mido, and former-Manchester United forward Alan Smith. Although, Joe Kinnear's interviews last week suggest that such a move is not on the cards, as he rates the former-England player and would give him an opportunity to showcase his talents on the pitch when he returns from injury in two weeks' time.

More likely Jo would be loaned to Newcastle if they were to make a deal involving Given.
Buzz Lightyear
Given will only be released if Michael Johnson is part of the deal. So, I don't really expect the deal to involve Jo in any way.
