Transfer Tattle: Adams on Barton-Pompey link

Despite Joe Kinnear's insistence that Joey Barton is going anywhere, cash rich Portsmouth have declared their hand. Having sold Lassana Diarra and Jermaine Defoe for a combined total of more than £35m the South coast club definitely have some brass in their pockets. Adams said:

'I've asked Peter for five players. My squad needs that, so I can play different systems. I think Joey is a great man, but he plays for Newcastle.

I give people second chances. People in glass houses and all that. We've had 39 people through the Sporting Chance clinic who are sober and clean. I know that Joey has been there.

There's a budget there and I'm working it to the best of my ability.'

Im a pompey fan, just wondering what you Newcastle fans think of Barton?

You're a great bloke Tony and well respected for what you have achieved off the pitch... as well as a defensive legend when on it. The Sporting Chance clinic was a great contribution to sport in the UK -- but really. Please don't get carried away with Mad Dog Barton. He had his second chance years ago. He is a careless match in a box of bangers and you'll never change that. I'm saying that as a City fan. We know what he is capable of.

Barton is a decent player but just can't get him on the pitch either through injury, jail time or FA disciplinary proceedings.

Please don't sell him to us, as a long standing Pompey fan i would be ashamed to see him wearing our shirt. As has already been said he's had more than his fair share of chances.
