Barton, Smith to return in two weeks

Joe Kinnear has gone on record stating that he has received no offers for Barton, and Smith, and that the club has no intention of selling either player.

"As for bids for our players, we haven`t heard from anybody.

"It`s been non-stop and the latest rumours focus on Joey Barton and Alan Smith."

Smith has missed the season in its entirety so far with an Achilles problem, but is set to come back sooner than the fans expected.

"I spoke to Alan Smith, and he`s bitterly disappointed that his name`s been bandied around for no reason at all.

"He`s two weeks away from full fitness, and I don`t know how we can transfer someone who has been out for six months."

Barton has also been tipped to make a comeback by the Newcastle gaffer, as he looks to rally his troops and stage a surge to the top of the league table.

"It`s the same with Joey Barton. He`s back in full training next week."
