Did Cisse's Shirt Upset You?

Djibril Cisse has issued an apology through Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez for his behaviour after scoring Liverpool's third goal against Newcastle at St James' Park on Sunday.

But why did the message to his family upset so many Newcastle fans.

I can remember when Mirandinho scored a penalty at the Kop end to win the match 2-1 and he ran half the length of the Kop kissing his badge. But Cisse was giving a message to his family ... so why the uproar?

Benitez: 'I told him during the game to calm down, and at the end we also talked.

'The message on his shirt was for his young son and his family, and he has told me that he wishes to say sorry to the Newcastle fans. He hopes it is not a problem. I do not think there will be any further action, it was not a serious incident. For him it was really important to score, he had been under a lot of pressure, and maybe his reaction was understandable.

'He has been trying for a long time to score and he had managed it, I suppose it was a normal reaction. Raising his shirt showed a message to his family.'

Why players get booked for lifting thier shirt over thier heads is annoying. Personally I think its becuase the sponsors don't like it. As players are photographed after scoring a goal therefore if thier shirt is off the sponsor doesn't appear all over the papers. It certianly doesn't annoy me but i think fans have picked up on this rule and feel its unjust if a players don't get booked now. When really the unjust thing is the sport used to be for the fans. Now its turning really corporate and before long it will end up like the superbowl.

It may be a silly rule to book someone for taking off his shirt. No, it IS a silly rule. However, Cisse knows the rules and still chose to get booked just to show a message to his wife and kids. What is he? Five? As a Liverpool fan it annoys me to no end when a player puts himself before the good of the club and let's face it, that's what he did. Bookings aren't without consequences. (as Robbie Savage has learned at the weekend haha!). Why Newcastle fans got so upset about it I don't know though. He wasn't taunting them (at that time). I guess some people just have no control over their emotions what so ever when they're at a football match and they'll see a reason to kick off in anything an opposition player does. It's a sad state of affairs but some people are just not intelligent enough to apply reason. Every club has them among their fanbase so no one can take the high ground here.
