NUFC Ferguson link: Smith denial

A swift denial has emerged in the Barry Ferguson to Newcastle story with Gers manager Walter Smith being sharp out of the blocks to rule out Joe Kinnear having made a bid. Smith confirmed that, whilst a bid had been made for Alan Gow, moves for McGregor, Bougherra and Ferguson had not been forthcoming. Speaking to Radio Scotland he said:

"You always get that at this time of the year. Players, managers, everyone has to handle that. We are speculating on speculation, that's how bad it gets at times. We have had one offer from Wolverhampton for Alan Gow and that's the only contact we have had from anybody so far.'
