The NOTW today reveals that Joe Kinnear attempted to shore up our leaky backline with a loan bid for Michael Mancienne of Chelsea, obviously sighted when checking out Michael Kightly on recent scouting visits to Wolves.
However Phil Scolari gave the idea short shrift, no doubt conscious that the player would probably move backwards about two years by playing in our backline.

Given his under 21 captain Steven Taylor's inability to progress in his four years in the first team, Scolari has definitely made the right decision.
