'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Will £10m tempt Ashley to sell?

Despite Joe Kinnear`s denials yesterday that we will be forced to sell Shay Given, the question has to be asked over whether Man City and a prospective bid of £10m might be enough to force his hands and end up in another Milner situation.

Rumblings over Shay`s future have persisted for months, despite the player being adamant he wants to stay. Yesterday Joe Kinnear said:

"He won't be leaving - he has no interest in that whatsoever. He loves the football club. He's part of the city and that suits us because he's a world-class goalkeeper. He's very happy here, he's very comfortable at Newcastle United.

Shay's performance against Liverpool was brilliant and that got picked up on. But ask the Geordie fans and I think they already knew how good he is. They know their football, so to be one of their favourites says it all about how good he is. He's the best goalkeeper in the Premier League by a mile.'

Hi, If City do come in for Givens it would be great for us City supporters. He's definitely one of the best keepers in the Prem and would be a good mentor for Joe Hart who is still (21) very young in goalkeeping terms. Not so good for Newcastle fans though, but it's a big bad world out there.

To be honest, given how good he is, it's a testament to his loyalty to the club that he has lasted this long with the shower of *****e we call a defence in front of him.
