'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Shay issues Spuds 'no thanks`

With the Sundays and Dailies ramping up the transfer gossip ahead of the much anticipated January window, one player who has been subject of intense speculation for a move away has been Shay Given.

Despite the fact he`s only a season away from breaking our all time appearances record, the recent upheaval has left many wondering whether the latest episode of our soap opera could see him off. However, like Ian Beale in Eastenders or Ken Barlow in Corrie, he looks set to be a fixture for a while yet. Shay himself said:

'I think the Tottenham thing is just speculation. That club has spent seven or eight million pounds on a goalkeeper already so I don't think they're going to spend any more on a goalkeeper.

It's purely speculation and talk in the papers - I'm sure that when Gomes gets his confidence back he'll be a very, very good goalkeeper again. I wouldn't want to leave Newcastle anyway, I'm very happy where I'm at.'
