'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Martins lays down immediate demands

With two winnable games coming up, Oba Martins has demanded NUFC step up to the plate and grab a bumper haul against Boro and Stoke to move away from the relegation dog fight, fast toughening up with Spurs, Blackburn and Wigan all charging into the mix. Oba said:

'All we need to do is win a couple of games in succession. If we can do that, we'll move up the table, I'm sure. Six points takes you a long way in this division. You can go from being in the relegation area to near the teams challenging for Europe. It's crazy, but that's the Premier League this season, so we still have so much to play for.

We're starting to improve in defence, and we're trying hard not to concede any goals. We've proved that we can do it against one of the best teams in the world. Not many teams will go to Chelsea and do that. You could go there and concede four or five goals. We kept a clean sheet against a top team, and the aim now is to do it again and again.

When you play against the best teams you just have to help each other. We showed we were a team. Sometimes it isn't just about scoring goals - you have to drop back and help your team-mates. You need to close opponents down and stop them coming at you. We had the mentality that we couldn't even concede one goal at Chelsea, and that worked.'

Ross my boy, I have to admire your perseverence.....but I must warn you that talking to yourself like this could lead to serious mental complications further down the line....maybe the next time I'm up in Gosforth visiting my brother we could meet and see if I can help sort your problem out!
