Shearer odds narrowing

An interesting sideline from the bookies tonight sees Alan Shearer`s odds being dramatically shortened, having crashed from 9-1 down to 11-8. With various Yank and Arabian groups still being linked Shearer`s name has again jumped to the forefront of the tipster`s lists of the men to replace Joe Kinnear.

Nothing seems to have cropped up anywhere to suggest there`s any truth in this but it seems bizarre that so many people would back a man without getting an inkling of something being afoot.

Can I just ask why everyone at Toon thinks Shearer will be some sort of saviour as a manager? I'm not denying that he was a quality player, a geniunely English heart who loved Newcastle and was superb for you, but great players don't always make great managers. Everything he'd do for you would obviously be with the best intentions and with the interests of the club first and foremost, but again, what makes people think he'll be a great manager? As far as I can recall he only actually worked under one truly great manager in Dalglish (debatable about Robson), so it's not like he has a wide experience to call on, and he's never managed at all so has no idea of the pressures involved.
