'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Yanks ahoy?

The hardly ever scurrilous FT today suggests that our potential new owners could be set to come from over in the good old US of A. With Hicks, Gillette and Macho Man Randy Lerner already in the Premier League what odds on it becoming a North American quadruple bill?

The key driver in any deal is Sterling`s current crash against the dollar, with the currency having gone from over two dollars to the pound to a fraction under 1.6 to the pound in a matter on months. Hence the Yanks hedge that in the period they own the club the dollar weakens and they make a tidy profit should they improve the club`s standing and value.

Who says football isn`t a business?

The risk would be that if they're just betting on the economy, they won't want to be investing too much into the club and if things don't go as they expect, will they sell assets to recoup losses, leaving you in a weaker position? Otherwise, it sounds like the investment you're waiting for isn't far away...

Looks like the interest rate cut could put a spanner in the works.
