'If It's Football, It's Vital'

JFK talks Citeh

Having made a significant difference to both the team`s morale and the tenacity in our displays, Joe Kinnear can hold his hands up and say he`s definitely improved things for the better despite the hullabaloo over his appointment as interim manager. Kinnear was moved to say, in the wake of the battling point v City:

'We've worked on a lot of things - belief and organisation are two of many things - and the players have been very receptive to anything we've put their way. The players are thinking more, there is more chat, more organisation on the pitch. They were a very quiet set of lads when I came but now we seem to have people who are prepared to take responsibility on the pitch.

That all comes with results. People go into their shells when things are going badly. You have to bring the best out of players. You have to sit down with most of them individually because they've all got different personalities.

I'm really pleased and I feel we're on the up. We've got key players coming back. We've got a massive game to look forward to next week and we're going into that game with two decent results.

It's not a case of the fans warming to me, it's a case of them taking to the players. I think they could see the effort that was put in and that every single player was trying to get a result for Newcastle football club.'
