Shola praises fans reception

Having scored his first goal since Allardyce was in charge (!), Shola Ameobi paid tribute to our fans for the support they gave him as he still aims to feel his way back into the pace of the Premier League. As the lad starts to look forward to possibly appearing in the derby this weekend, he said:

'When you get that sort of reception it makes up for all those tough times that I've endured with all the injuries and time out. It just means so much when you are playing in front of your home fans. It makes all that hard work worthwhile.

It's been a long two years and it's been a tough time but hopefully now I'm back playing and will continue to grow in confidence. It was like a pinball machine. But fortunately for me you need that luck as a striker. Today it went for me and thankfully I was able to get it into the net somehow and that gave us all a lift.

We came out after half-time and said we can win this game. We got another piece of luck with the second goal and we thought we were going to win it. But they have got top players who can hurt you and that's what they did.'
