Souness: 'Emre Not Good Enough'?
Former Newcastle manager Graeme Souness has spent a lot of time on TV this past week, and when quizzed by SKY TV on Sunday, finally broken his silence on his time on Tyneside. He revealed he knew his days at St James's were numbered when Michael Owen got injured.
Souness: 'Given the nature of the job, I knew that day at Tottenham, when Michael got the injury, that it was always a matter of time for me.
'It's something you think about when you're signing the contract on day one - I'm going to get sacked at some stage. Very few managers don't get the sack.
'I don't feel I did much wrong there. I think Lady Luck was not kind to me at all.
'It is a very difficult job at Newcastle, and I knew that at the time. You have to ask why that club has not won silverware for so long. There is a lot of pressure put on the manager, and there was also a lot of pressure put on the players.
'I think the players worked hard for me, but it was not to be.
'I watched the Manchester United game and the one player I would have to question is Emre. He has yet to get his head around the English game.'
