Nathaniel: Our Newcastle bid is in

Having declared their interest long before any other, the mystery Nigerian consortium appear to be the first to have tabled an official bid for the club, having done so on Friday night. With the consortium`s mouthpiece Chris Nathaniel confident in their offer, he refused to be dragged into an open price hike with other suitors, as the bids seem to have been made using a sealed envelope style auction. He said:

"We can't reveal our bid at this stage, that's confidential between ourselves and Newcastle, but a bid was put in on Friday evening. There's been no timeline given by Newcastle but we hope it will be sometime soon. What they don't want to do is spend a load of money to buy the club and have no money to buy players and to work on what is a quite a troubled infrastructure."
