Closing in on Smith`s replacement?

As the media whip the alleged unrest over any Smith to Everton deal into a frenzy, it seems like Newcastle management are beavering away behind the scenes to try and complete a deal for Erin Derdoyik to appease fans who are becoming seriously stressed over the fact only Shola out of the remaining strikers has seen any pre-season action.

Having baulked at the initial 6m price it looks like further efforts to find a compromise are being attempted.

Everything seems to have gone quiet on the Smudge front. We'll wait and see whether he's in the line up for the Valencia game tonight. If he's not he'll be off to Goodison.
