'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kevin Keegan Set to quit?

The Sunday Mirror: 'Newcastle United stars fear boss Kevin Keegan may be driven out of St James' Park.

Keegan has been ordered to slash the Magpies wage bill by about £10million and senior figures in the dressing room are concerned his position at the club is becoming untenable.

The Toon boss has insisted to his players that he won't quit, but has left them in no doubt that he thinks his days are numbered.

After Keegan took over in January he warned that the size of billionaire owner Mike Ashley's ambition would be revealed by his summer transfer budget. And Keegan followed up by insisting Ashley had to ensure striker Michael Owen - whose £20million, four-year contract expires next June - was handed a new deal.'

According to the Sunday Mirrors' 'insider'.

'The players have real fears that Kevin Keegan could part company with the club sooner rather than later. It is the talk of the dressing room. The manager is keeping his powder dry in public, but the players are well aware that Kevin and his assistant Terry McDermott are far from happy.

It's nice to see that nobody has been directly quoted apart from the infamous 'insider', there is not a shred of evidence and nothing to back the story up. I would stick this story in the 'slow news day' category and treat it with the contempt it deserves.
