What KK Said After Everton Defeat

Kevin Keegan saw his side finish the season with a 3-1 defeat at Everton on Sunday, as the hosts confirmed their Uefa Cup place next season as a result. Michael Owen had cancelled out an earlier Everton goal with a second half penalty, but Everton added another two goals to secure the win.

Rather than be to disappointed about the result, as he knows that he will be hopefully rebuilding this summer, Keegan drew on the positives and is looking to what Everton have achieved as something that the Toon could quite as easily do with the right level of investment and the right players arriving: 'If ever we needed a team to look at we were in the right place today,' Keegan told BBC Sport. 'If Everton can finish fifth, why can't we? We have a bigger stadium and more fans, but they all play for each other and that's the spirit we don't have.

'If we can get that with the players we've got there's no reason we can't challenge for that spot next season.'

Can Keegan get that spirit and quality together this summer to turn the Toon into a side capable of challenging for fifth spot next season?
