Roeder Mind Games?

Toon captain Alan Shearer will be given until the last minute to prove his fitness ahead of Saturday evening's Premiership clash with Everton. But stand-in manager Glenn Roeder insists he will only play if 100% fit. Roeder kept Shearer's injury under wraps before the FA Cup tie with Southampton, and it could be mind games once again if he was suddenly to throw in his star strker at the last second.

The 35-year-old has missed the last two games with a calf problem and remains a major doubt, while Kieron Dyer and Titus Bramble (both hamstring) are definitely out and could be for up to three weeks.

Full-back Celestine Babayaro returns after suspension, but Michael Owen (foot), Stephen Carr (hernia) and Steven Taylor (shoulder) remain on the casualty list.

Newcastle (from): Given, Harper, Ramage, Boumsong, Elliott, Babayaro, Parker, Emre, Solano, N'Zogbia, Bowyer, Clark, Brittain, Pattison, Shearer, Ameobi, Luque, Chopra.
