Baines And Ashton On KK's List

Kevin Keegan has added Everton full-back Leighton Baines and West Ham striker Dean Ashton to his summer shopping list, so rumour has it according to today's Sun anyway.

Baines has found it difficult to make a breakthrough at Everton since his move from Wigan last summer but David Moyes is unlikely to want to part with the one time would be England international and had previously said how important to the club he was even though he hadn't featured much. Money however can do strange things, so if Keegan offered enough there is a chance these thoughts could change.

A long-term ankle injury kept Ashton out last season when he was on the verge of an England breakthrough, and he has had a few problems this season as well but he is getting back to his best, and when at his very best Ashton was being chased by some of the best around. West Ham would again be reluctant to sell, but the difference with them is they also have plenty of money so they will not be tempted by a big offer, however should Ashton wish to leave Upton Park that could be a different matter.

Could you see Baines or Ashton arriving at St James Park this summer?

Although Bainesy hasn't played a great deal this season through injury, Moyes has told the fans that another reason is his stature. In some games, he has opted to play Lescott at left back in order to add extra height to the team, especially against opposition who are good in the air. Having said that, he also said he expects Leighton to be a important player for years to come, and that moves will be made over the summer to increase the average height of the midfield so that leighton can be played more at left back which Evertonians all want to see happen. At the moment we have a midfield with no player over 5'10'' but hopefully this will be addressed in the close season and we will see leighton fulfilling his ability at his beloved blues.
