Mort Eager To Tie Steven Taylor Down

Attempts to tie Steven Taylor to a new long-term deal have so far proved unsuccessful but the Toon's chairman Chris Mort is very keen to sort out the future of the local hero, who has been called into the England squad in the past.

An offer made to Taylor in September hasn't really appealed to the 22-year-old and this has left some question marks over the future of the local lad but Mort is putting keeping him as one of his top priorities: 'Steven Taylor is a young and very promising defender in the team,' Mort told the media. 'We would like him to stay at Newcastle United long term.

'We will sit down with Steven and his father, and hopefully work something out.'

Do you expect Taylor to agree his new contact or could Taylor be tempted to leave his hometown club?
