Owen And Martins To Get Bumper Deals

Michael Owen's Toon contract ends at the end of next season and as such the club are very eager to tie him down to a longer-term deal, and that is exactly what Mike Ashley is attempting to do.

Rumour has it that Ashley wants to offer Owen a new 20million four-year contract to stay at St James' rather than be tempted to move on this summer, or a possible free transfer in the summer of 2009. This would see Owen pick up 110,000 per week. Not enough, well Obafemi Martins, who has already agreed a new four-year deal of his own is primed to pick up a whopping 90,000 per week if he puts pen to paper on this agreed deal.

Owen and Martins are not really short of admirers but will these wages be enough to tempt them to stay with the Toon. Are they influenced by money or will the clubs vision prove enough for them to stay? Maybe the vision will be enough, but the money would certainly help wouldn't it!
