Toon Target Dunne Staying Put?

Manchester City skipper Richard Dunne is yet to commit his long-term future to the club and this has left plenty of clubs on red alert, with Kevin Keegan believed to be very interested in bringing the Irish defender to St James'.

Sven Goran Eriksson is well aware of interest from others but he remains convinced that Dunne, who will not decide on his future until the summer, will commit to the club: 'I am quite sure it will be sorted out, when I don't know,' Eriksson told the press. 'He has become a special, special player for the club.

'He has been the best player for the club for the last couple of years; he was Ireland player of the year this year.

'He has not promised anything, he is 28 and when you come up to this stage of your career, you might only sign one or two more contracts. Of course you want a long one and you want a certain sum of money. He won't sign too many more contracts.'

These comments will probably not put of Keegan, who is likely to be interested until Dunne does commit to Man City, if indeed he does?

Another central defender being linked with the Toon is Athletic Bilbao's 23-year-old Fernando Amorebieta, who is believed to have been watched by Newcastle scouts recently.

Liverpool are another club thought to be interested, but the greater chance of regular football at St James' could sway him in favour of the Toon as he looks to push forward his claims for full international recognition with Spain, having been a former under 21.

Are Dunne and/or Amorebieta players you would like to see in the black and white of Newcastle next season?
