Kevin Keegan is anxious to make quite a few changes at St James' Park this summer but he insists that keeping England striker Michael Owen at the club is his main priority, and he believes that he will stay.
Should Owen commit his future to the Toon this summer, which Keegan feels he will, Keegan believes that he will be the main summer signing no matter who else does arrive during the summer months: 'I talked to him last week and I don't think there will be any problem,' Keegan told The Times. 'We want him and he wants to stay, I think.
'He enjoys being at Newcastle. He's never really had the chance to prove it because of injuries and people have, a bit unfairly, said, 'Is he totally committed?' I'm the person best placed to answer that, and it's 'yes' with a capital Y.
'He has taken over the dressing-room with a couple of others and said, 'Come on, let's get this club where it should be.' So he'll be our main signing next season, regardless of who comes and how much they cost.'
Owen has regained something like his best form in recent weeks, so if he can sustain this without further injuries there are not too many better strikers in the country than him, so it would be little surprise if other took an interest in him.
The question remains though, are you as confident as Keegan that Owen stay with the Toon this summer or do you feel he will be tempted with a move away?
