Souness Got It Right

Shearer has told the official site in an interview that he had no complaints about being benched in Saturdays 3-0 win over WBA although he did think Souness was joking to start with!

Souness decided to rest Shearer and put Owen and Ameobi up front.

Shearer said: 'I didn't think I'd be on the bench, but I said to him before the game that I was disappointed. I scored at Grimsby in midweek, and as a striker when you get a goal they often come in twos threes and fours. I told him that and he fully understood it, but I understand the reasons why I didn't play and I haven't got a problem with that. I knew that this season I couldn't play every game, but up to now I have done because I have been the only fit one at times.'

Adding 'He made the right decision - the result tells you that.' Although he did tell Souness after the game, that if he had been played from the start, he could have scored a hattrick! 'I came on and got the goal, so I can't complain - but I might have got two or three if I'd started!'
